Wax is dead...
Concourse wax

Wax is dead is a statement quite often made in the industry…

Its something I disagree with, although ceramic coatings have some great benefits - like ease of maintenance, durability and water repellency… they aren’t for everyone or every vehicle!

Wax will always have a place for me - it has some great benefits of its own…

Its quite therapeutic and easy to apply, depending on what wax you choose and its characteristics it often smells great and for me nothing leaves a depth of gloss and finish like a good hard wax!

If you enjoy detailing your vehicle and like to spend time maintaining it, own a classic or show car for me wax is where its at.

Preserving paint...

Something that’s not spoken about too much in this industry is preserving paint…

Modern car paint is incredibly thin and consists of a primer coat, base colour coat and clear coat (To give you a rough idea all three of the above combined, are similar in thickness to a post it note!) every year paint is getting thinner and thinner as manufacturers look to save money wherever they can.

The uppermost layer of this clear coat contains the majority of UV protection, if polished too much this can actually be removed, voiding some manufacturers paint warranty’s!

At the same time paint is getting thinner…Polishing machine, pad and compound technology is rapidly advancing - making the cutting capabilities more aggressive and faster!

With these factors in mind its more important now than ever as professional detailers that we are able to measure the thickness of the paint and understand the importance of preserving the clear coat when working on vehicles.

So how can we get around this and polish cars safely?

This is where knowledge, training, experience and having the right tools play a huge factor

We always start prior to any polishing work by giving the vehicle a thorough visual inspection… with experience you can often tell if a panels not factory paint and has had a repair.

The vehicle is then mapped with a paint depth gauge (as in the pictures) which will flag up any areas of concern – the particular gauge we use creates an in-depth report logging minimum, medium, maximum and symmetric measurements.

Once this has been done, it’s at this point that a plan of action can be made with the best way to approach the paint correction allowing us to manage expectations while knowing we left healthy amounts of clearcoat and UV protection behind.

Steam Cleaning

Steam cleaning is one of the best ways to clean a car interior…

We’ve all seen or read the benefits steam cleaning can produce when it comes to killing germs and bacteria, but its also a fantastic way to get into tight spaces, clean glass, remove stains, kill odours, and can even reduce or remove the need for using any chemicals!

One of its biggest advantages over traditional extraction machines is that it doesn’t over saturate the interior…which can cause a multitude of problems such as damp, smells. electrical issues and so on.

Steam cleaning is included with all our packages as its so effective…we use a machine which produces superheated dry vapour and allows us to adjust the pressure to suit almost any surface killing upto 99.95 of bacteria and viruses

Cars can have sensitive materials to which some are not suitable for steam cleaning, so please research beforehand if you intend to steam clean your own vehicle interior.

Think of it like a flu shot for your car...

Your car interior can hide a multitude of germs, bacteria, mould, viruses, VOC’s and unpleasant odours just from simple and continued day-to-day use.

The last few years have taught us how important cleanliness really is and shown how quickly things can spread, which is why we introduced an air treatment service to compliment our interior deep cleaning process - ensuring your car interior is extra fresh and free of any potentially harmful germs or bad odours…even in those hard to reach places!

How clean is your interior?

Lighting plays a crucial role in many aspects of detailing, although first thoughts are usually associated with paint correction and polishing to help see defects…

It’s also quite useful when cleaning interiors!

This UV light highlights anything that cannot be seen under normal lighting conditions, this inspection ensures your car interior is spotlessly clean.
